Reading Resonse Where the lilies Bloom 2

Title: Where the lilies bloom
Author: Vera and Bill Cleaver
Genre: historical fiction
URL or book: book

I finished reading "Where the lilies bloom" by Vera and Bill Cleaver. Its a historical fiction book about a teenage girl named "Mary Call" who takes care of her brothers and sisters while her father is dead. Mary Call is the oldest sibling in the Luther family, followed by Romey, Ima Dean and Devola younger than Mary Call. After their father died, they decide not to tell anyone because they don;t want to go to a orphanage but instead, they want to live themselves. Earlier, Kiser Pease got sick and they had to take care of him. Mary Call told him that if he lets them go on the land, they will help him. After when he is better, he is confused on why they are on the land, Mary Call tells him that he signed a contract letting them. She shows him and he promises not ripping it and he sees. He doesn't know that Roy Luther died so they tell everyone that he is sleeping in his room and it's not a good time to visit. Mary Call and Romey get ready for winter by planting crops. Winter is here and the Luthers go out to Trial Creek. It's not looking at it's best with belching stones and dirt, Swollen banks and brown branches against its torrent makes it an ugly, angered river. Half way up Old Joshua (hill), they harvested some princess pine, small evergreen called ground holly known as false evergreen. When going back down, they notice Roy Luther's grave, they looked at it without leaving their path. That day, Kiser's sister came with her car, she doesn't resemble Kiser; she has blue, waffled hair and a humourless mouth. She asked them where Roy Luther is, Mary Call answered " He's asleep". She was curious on why he asleep at this time of day, Mary Call explained that he is sick. Goldie Pease wants to see Roy Luther when he is awake, she needs to talk to him. Golie Pease was not an educated woman but crafty. She gave Mary Call a 2 week vacation if they give back the house, they don't know where they are going but Mary Call will know by morning. Mary Call and Devola are talking about Kiser. Mary Call talks bad about him and Devola is protesting.
This is all I will talk about, I don't want to give it away

I predict that Kiser and his sister will get mad at when Mary says he is dead. I think that because she kept it away from then this whole time and they wanted to speak to him.

I wonder, Why does Mary Call dislike Kiser?

I didn't make any connections while reading.

I like how the book is interesting and makes you want to read. I just don't like how they use language they used in the past such as "Come spring Roy Luther'll" instead of just saying "Come spring Roy Luther will"

I recommend this book for anyone who likes stories that have to do with survival and taking care of families.
