Some people are confused by the question “Do video games need to be violent in order to be successful?” When they say successful, they mean by getting a lot of people to buy their games and make money. A lot of people are talking this subject and debating about each side. Some people say that games are successful in the buying only because they are violent while others say that they don’t need to be violent in order to be successful. I think that video games aren’t successful only because they are violent. I will be telling you some reasons why you should agree with me.
The first reason I think you should agree with me is because I found that most non-violent video games have more buyers. Comparing Mario Games and Call of duty series, Call of Duty got over 55 million games sold while Mario games sold over 200 million. Call of Duty and Mario Series has a lot of games created even though Mario games sold more. In the Mario series, Mario tries to save the princess because the villain Bowser takes her. Mario has to go through worlds to get to his castle and save her. Although, Mario games are a bit violent because of Mario jumping on Goombas, Koopas and the obstacles (spikes, getting eaten by piranhas, and so on) which are painful and make Mario die. There isn’t any blood in the killing, but Mario games aren’t as violent as Call of Duty or any other first-shooter games.
Another reason I think this is because while I was looking for ideas, I saw that the most popular games are those old fashioned games like Pac-man and Tetris. Even thought they are older than first-shooter games, first-shooters are bought a lot more than Pac-Man or Tetris and they still are more popular and most bought than the violent games. Pac-Man can be a bit violent because Pac-Man eats the coloured ghosts when they are blue and the ghosts try to eat Pac-Man. Tetris isn’t violent at all because you have coloured tiles in shapes and you have to make rows on the bottom and when you get rows, they disappear and you try not to get any tiles above the top line.
All these games can get addicting for you if you play them a lot and enjoy them. This also brings up addiction. Addiction is when you find something you like and you are always associated with it. In this scenario, we are talking about video games and people getting addicted. Research shows that 1 out of 4 young people are addicted to video games. Whether violent or not, you can get addicted to a game because you enjoy it. Lot of people enjoy violent games while others enjoy non-violent games. An example of a violent video game can be COD(Call of Duty), GTA (Grand Theft Auto) and Killzone 2. Some non-violent games are Little Big Planet, Wii Party and DDR (Dance Dance Revolution). All these games are fun but it matters by the person on what they want to play.
I now told you some of my reasons why I think that video games don’t need to be violent in order to be successful in selling and buying. My question to you is: Do you think that video games need to be violent in order to be successful or not?

I think I did good in organazation and using the 5 paragraph structure.
ReplyDeleteI think I can improve on remembering that the work cited has to be in alphabetical order and my word choice (more million dollar words)
Some really great things here Dana. Great explanation of what successful means in your intro. That was a smart thing to do. I also like your choice of evidence in your first 2 paragraphs. Be sure that the evidence in your third is directly related to your topic. Remember, your argument will be stronger if you don't use 'I'!!!

ReplyDeleteI think that you had good facts that seemed up to date and were supporting your opinion. Also I liked how you ended your essay with a question, it was really catchy and i liked it!
ReplyDeleteI think some things you could work on are that you should rember to revise your work and add million dollar words, like use a thesaurus and change some of the words. Also I think that you should work on editing your work, because you could have cut some stuff out......
BUTTTTTTT.... Over all it was really reallly good!!
I think that this is really great. I think that you sure had good backup in your paragraphs, ESPECIALLY THE FIRST TWO. I also like kaitlyn said, really like how you ended your essay with a question. I think this because this leaves people hanging and actually thinking about what you said. I think that your argument was pretty good, however i think that one way that you can improve it is that you try to use no "I". Lastly, i think that you could have re-read it and took some un-neccessary parts out, and edit your spelling adn punctuation. Oh and dont forget million dollar words ;)
ReplyDeleteAll and All, i think that it was REALLY good <3
